The sweetness of the air

Together with the chorus of

Familiar bird calls reminds us

We’re home to stay

The comfort of ancestral

Memories resonate with us

Stay longer as we age

Become the basis

Of genealogy notebooks

Sit with us on the front or back

Porch and sip some sweet tea

While the boys sip some shine

Or perhaps sample some of

Today’s hard ciders

Taming the wildness

Of Appalachian life

An elusive prospect

Confirmed by baby foxes at play

Sighted on our way home from

Last evening’s concert and

Dinner date, a fine ending

To the day in the hills of

West Virginia
